Exploring the pasture
we are receiving calls for 4H wethers (our first births on the farm!) and are unsure what they are going for in se michigan. one farm is $75 another is $125. input from other boer breed michiganders, please . . .
thanks! ours kids are 100% boer. i noticed on another site that a 3/4 boer buckling went for $200 as a wether and $250 as a buckling. kind of goes all over the map, doesn't it? i'm not wanting to squeeze a 4H kid, but i sure don't want to take a loss either. we're pretty new at this, so we have the vet debud them, so that expense will have to be taken into consideration for us as well.Roll farms said:I'm not in MI (we're 1 hr S. of Ft. Wayne), but I have people come down from there for wethers.
We sell them based on 'quality' and potential. A 50% Boer, 50% Nubian wether typically won't win, but will not disgrace the kid showing it either....we sell those for 75-125$, depending on how 'thick' they are / which parent they take after most.
The higher the %, the more $ they are.
I won't sell a WETHER for over $150.00, that's our max price point for 4-H kids. If I think a male goat we have for sale is worth more than that, I'll keep him a buck and sell as such.
