Can someone please tell me how do you go about drenching? I have been reading and also saw a few videos online but I'm not sure. Is this something that requires 2 people to do? What is the easiest way to drench? Is a drench gun required to drench?

Thanks for any help.

You need to put the end of the syringe, baster or drenching syringe back as far as you can get it. so a drenching syringe is helpful for an experienced person. easier to get it back farther. Pretty much you need to get it way back, past the back of the tongue, like it would be to gag a person. But livestock don't seem to have as much of a gag reflex.

If by yourself halter the animal if it is larger and you can't handle it by yourself, and tie it up to a post.

use free hand/arm to stabalize head and mouth. insert syringe so it is back past back of tongue and slowly push syringe down, allowing animal time to swallow.

If they are spitting it out, you don't have the proper drenching equipment or you aren't getting it back far enough in their mouth.

We use this it works great, especially if drenching more than a few cc's at a time.

They come in 10cc, 20cc, 30cc, and 50cc. Any of the brands will work. the 10cc one is great for accurate measturing of wormers.

We also have been known to just use a 3cc or 6cc syringe for drenching wormer. Got to get the end of it back far enough, and give them time to swallow. Have the plunger part sticking out the side of the mouth. NOt straight on from the front, like a bottle.

Thank you VERY much for your help. I am printing out your instructions and will do exactly as you instruct. I will get a drenching gun today.

A few of our sheep seem to think they have to put their heads up high for drenching and that causes choking. My husband keeps their heads from going up too high and that avoids choking. I'd say that with two people this goes much easier!

Just takes practice to make it a one person job...and my sheep like to put their heads back also, just trying to avoid the drench gun. After they get used to you delivering things this way, it gets much easier and they don't fight it so badly.

I don't know that I'd even attempt it without my drench gun! Love that thing! :D
