I'm thinking about being a living kidney donor

So I have been a regular blood donor. I'm on the bone marrow registry, but have not been called to be a match for anyone.
I was watching a story on our local news about a young man who needed a kidney. He would have to spend 10 hours a day 5 days a week on dialysis. I thought, well I would not really miss one. I could possibly be a match for him, but I'm sure there is a greater need. I filled out the online survey. Someone from the transplant team will call me this week for a phone interview.
The only thing that worries me is that I would need to board the dogs and hire help on the farm for my recovery. That can get a bit pricy.

You have a big heart. Perhaps you could share your story and someone might volunteer to help you while you recover. This is a good news story. You might as well put it out there and you could wind up with several volunteers who could take turns.

Yep maybe. I've got 3 giant schnauzer house dogs. They can be a handful. I'll see if the transplant folks have any suggestions too.

Maybe the boy’s family or friends could help. Hospitals try to keep donor and recipient apart, but in this case, you give a kidney, they help your recovery.

Do you know if you are a match?

Will see how it goes. I have a lot of questions that I'm sure they can answer. It would be easier if I did not live alone for sure. I'm blood type A- and He's A+, so yes that would be a match.

If someone gave my kid a kidney, I’d crawl 10 miles over broken glass just to say thank you.

yep His Mom was crying on the news. I think he's on his 20s and has had issues for quite a while. It's gotten to this point now. It's amazing how a donation like that could totally change someone's quality of life.

I watched a friend want so badly to be normal, but have to have dialysis multiple times a week for a few years while waiting for a donor. I really admire anyone who would be willing to help someone out in a situation like that.

My MIL was born with one kidney. She lived to 75.
