Laying out fiber around box edge to spin up. Alternating the longer, wispy stuff with the shorter, spongy wool.
About that much goes into a one ply bobbin.

Getting close to be done with 2018 Billy!

It still wants to be thin, hmm, separating the shorter, springy stuff next time would be a good idea. Then the longer, wispy stuff can spin real thin as it prefers.

If I had 6 fingers, I could easily do a 5 ply. Doing three with this fleece, will try a 4 ply with the next fleece I pull out to deal with. Maybe attempt a 5 ply, too, but not sure how to hold all those singles with enough tension and not allowing them to get tangled...

I can see how that could be helpful in some instances. Finding gloves would be hard but I guess you could make your own with all that fiber.

Rained on 3 that were drying, moved them under the roof overhang. They match weathered plywood well! Lol
Tried hanging one out like others do, but its more labor than my cpvc frame! I also read people whack/thatch it or something like that. Sounds like a worthless step to me and has been unnecessarily. Hmm
Ignore the ugly house.......I can't fix up everything...

Can you make a lazy Kate? I think that's what it's called. Board with pegs/dowels spaced so you can set up the bobbins and they will feed to the spinning wheel.

Something like this, but add another row behind the first, offset so the yarn feeds between the first row. Would also have to add more spacer loop things to the three in the front there.

Yup, but it doesn't have feeder loop things to help keep the single plys where you want them. It's just a suggestion, you don't have to change anything if you don't want to. :)

Ah, that's what you were getting at. Missed that.
I could add hooks/loops to the wheel's handle near the rear.
Would probably need several that zig zag to add drag/tension, though, right?

I've been thinking about what to do with the roving once it's ready.
Looking into core plyed, but having crappy luck finding picture guides of people doing it themselves vs sent to a mill.
What I'm finding is very technical, drawings, industrial wire or very thin of several cores and many outer yarns around it, or just pictures of finished, large bundles of alpaca. =/
Looking to find what is best for the core. Cotton string, what thickness? Single or plyed thin wool that's the same fiber that'll wrap it? What angle does the wool go onto the core, how tightly? How do you get such thick stuff through the metal hole and the hooks??
Probably more I can't think of...
