IS this even a farm? Canesister's 2026

Yesterday was one long comedy of errors.

Wed afternoon my trainee & I were discussing pizza.... and our deep desire for some.
I pulled up the Pizza Hut site & after a little more discussion we placed an order for lunch to be delivered Thurs at 11:30.

Then Thurs came. It was a balmy 70-something when I left the house..... in shorts with no coat or anything.
The morning went OK. We were told at the morning safety meeting that we had to be across the street at noon for a meeting in the conference room.
.... AT Noon??
Anyway, we were running a trial & needed 6 more mini rolls to finish. No problem.
Around 10 someone mentioned it was raining. I started whining about not wanting to walk a block down the street in the rain & were we REQUIRED to be at the meeting???
11:15 came, I checked on the pizza order. 11:20 a text came saying it should arrive at 11:40.
11:55 and no pizza yet. Temps down to the 40's, wind Howling & rain pouring. 😱 Someone had left a jacket hanging on the tool bench behind the Beamer, so I grabbed that for the walk. There are 'company' umbrellas by the door so I grabbed the last one for my trainee (also no coat)!
We still got soaked on the way over from the sideways rain.
The meeting was brief. Named the Employee of the Year. @Iron Cauldron Gardens it was Geo!!!! 🎉
On the way back there was a siren going off somewhere...... turned out is was the fire alarm IN OUR BUILDING.
No one allowed back inside. There we all were.... standing on the ramp & loading dock.... soaked.... cold... while the fire crews wandered in & out looking bored.
Then one of the managers brought up that 'per policy' we were supposed to be in the church parking lot across the street. There was nearly a revolt - but somehow, there we all went.
Oh.... still no pizza yet!!
We huddled in the door frames of the church for about 30mins until 'they' decided that we could go back to the conference room.
I'm texting with the pizza delivery trying to find out if they are coming or not & can they come to the other building instead because of all the fire trucks in our parking lot.
At least there is hot coffee in the conference room. No lunch for any of us yet.
My supervisor is still at the plant - in the parking garage of the loft appts next door. He texts about 1:15 that the pizza has arrived (finally).
About 1:30 they finally let us walk BACK down the block in the wind & rain. Lunch break!!!! 🎉
Then back to work... a couple of hours behind schedule now.
We finish the trial & start to break down the machine to set it up for a different product. Which was good because it's hard work & got us all warmed up again!
One thing after another... we did NOT finish getting it set up for the next product. 🤷‍♀️. Luckily though, the snow had stopped and the temps had climbed from the 30's into the low 40's by the time we left.

So today I'm super sore from all the bending and twisting of the set-up & have a little bit of a sore throat. Dad seems a little bit miffed that I won't entertain him today.
Time for 2nd nap.

My dh used to sing the Pizza Hut jingle with a slight variation of the lyrics:

"Pizza Hut...making you wait!"
:gig

Hope you're back to 100% soon.

Media is going NUTS with the forecast of intense storms for tomorrow.
Weather 'news' being what it is..... I'm waffling between trying not to panic & poo-pooing it as the typical drama-drama.
Key words I'm hearing 'Chance of'.. 'Possibility of seeing' .. 'In some of our viewing areas'..
I'm wondering why this is getting more intense coverage than the usual buildup to our annual hurricanes??
Hope I don't find out 🫣

If they said it’s gonna rain and that’s all they said, you would not watch it. They hype all the drama because people prefer drama over just the facts.
That storm just came through here, short and knocked power out. Power will be back for a visit in a little while. It’s was a narrow strip of storms, but widens out as it moves eastward.

Ya' know - with all this I always go back to.....
The little boy who cried wolf
and of course there's not a heck of a lot we can do besides just keep up on regular stuff and maintenance - that makes last minute --It's gonna storm prep pretty simple.

Just venting... not looking for sympathy or anything. Just feeling the need to express frustration. 🫤
Last week was my 'long week'. Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun. 12hr days. Lots of focus on my trainee so she can test out this week to the last phase, while still doing the job & surpassing our goals. Keeping the animals all fed & content around the farm, house clean, etc.
Last night Chaos didn't seem to be feeling good so I was up off & on all night keeping an eye on him. Seems to have just been some tummy trouble, he seems fine today. 😻
Anyway... there's nothing pressing that NEEDS me today. The house is passably clean. There's plenty of clean laundry. The fridge is FULL of easy food. Yard work needs doing, but will still be there this evening or tomorrow.
I 'slept in' till 7. Let the chickens out & refilled everyone's water. Fed the roos. Checked on Eva (who's loving the new grass). I put on some 'comfort TV background noise' & settled in to doom-scroll, Amazon shop, do a little Google searching. Dad has had 2 naps this morning & has just gotten up, come into the den and scolded me for 'spending all day staring at that thing'.... 'you're going to ruin your eyes!' 🙄
I bit my tongue, took a deep breath, and said that my eyes would be ok since I spend hours every day distinguishing between threads the size of a pencil lead from 15meters away.
I'm trying to be grateful for the opportunity to take care of him. People keep wanting to remind me 'he was patient with you', 'he took care of you'.... but he didn't. MOM essentially raised us alone. His contribution was little more than modern child support payments. It FEELS like this polite elderly neighbor had been staying with me... for 2 months.
The demo portion of his home repairs is over. The new project mgr for the rebuild portion came out Thurs to take measurements & pictures & readings.... as if his counterpart in the demo division hadn't JUST done all that on Tues. He is supposed to have his report submitted to the insurance guy by today so they can FINALLY schedule the start of the repairs.

I'm just whining. I want my house back.
I want to be able to tumble out of bed & stumble to the kitchen to pour myself a cup of ambition without having to stop & put on a bra.
I want to have a mid morning snack or even a whole second breakfast without someone commenting 'You eating again?? You just ate! Where could you possibly put all that food!'
I want to watch what I like on TV without constant huffing & sighing & comments about fantasy or sci-fi or animation being silly & stupid & not making sense.
I want to come home after a long day & not have to make polite small talk for half an hour before going to bed.

Like I said, I'm just venting. I don't seem to have anywhere else to whine. <pout>

edited to add: he's been sitting down in the living room for about 2hrs. Just sitting. All the cats are here in the den. No TV. No radio. No book. Nothing. Just sitting still. Listening to himself breathe.
Why does he do that???? Does anyone else do that?? Is it me? Is it weird that I can't stand to just sit in silence.. for hours on end?
