BALMY 4 degrees to start..... BUT.... it is supposed to be much less windy, and warming into the upper 20's and low 30's today...
Then 40's tomorrow and maybe low 50's for Tues/Wed.... anything above freezing will be like springtime weather...
When I had 20+ farms, and was testing full time, I didn't have alot of days to miss due to weather... but NEVER was in the "HAVE TO" go test position... I had 2 slight accidents many years ago, going to test, with slippery roads... and I told all my farmers then, YOUR COWS are NOT WORTH DYING OVER....
Did have to call a couple times at 2-3 in the morning, and have the farmer go and take the milk weights for their 2nd milking, when I got up and it had snowed or iced up more than was forecast and I decided NOT to go back for the 2nd test... but we had talked about it the evening before...
Even when I was milking cows full time, I always let the farmer know that I would call if it was real bad as I did not need to be in a ditch, or worse if the road was bad... I also grew up driving in snow so I was not as likely to not go to work as it did not bother me to drive in it...
Here in Va we tend to get more ice/sleet combinations and roads can be much more treacherous... AND people in general are much STUPIDER about driving... 4 wd and all wd seems to make people think they can just go anywhere, do anything... and drive at the same speeds as a completely clear road... :he :he :he :he :barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie:rant:rant:rant:somad:somad:somad:somad

First winter after moving south I discovered the joy of rednecks. Since nothing gets plowed cars wind up off the road, usually in a ditch. There are young men who live for the thrill of pulling cars out of the ditch, like a rodeo sport. And won't take money, either. There's still some good Good Ol' Boys around.

I absolutely hate driving in snow and ice. I work in an ER full time and another hospital part time. The bosses act like you need to be bleeding out your eyes before you can call out due to weather. :he
YIKES - I would think they'd understand a little thinking they don't want to see you in the ER on the otherside of the ER. GEEZE.

-15 here this morning. No wind. It's now a balmy +25, and tomorrow 46!!! I think we have had one day above freezing in the last month, so that will feel amazing.

My 33 year old horse decided to have an "episode" yesterday, so I was up checking on him most of the night. He's is back to his old self today, thank goodness, but I worried about the extreme cold last night. He did fine, and was hollering for his breakfast this morning!
