Hubby is trying to start working on the bathroom this weekend. I got pretty much everything out and ready for him to demolish things. The floor around the toilet looks not-flat. Wonder how much floor is actually there, or if its just being held up by the vinyl.

So far with the bathroom fix we are: one trip to home depot; the toilet, tub/shower removed, lots of ruined particle board removed. We will be buying new toilet and new tub/shower.

This is where the tub was:

Hubby says the joists actually look ok, but the particle board is just gone. He thinks will have to take out the bathroom wall to the south (kids room), north (laundry room), and west (hallway). Depending on what he finds when he finishes removing the bad flooring and walls, might also need to replace studs in the east wall (exterior wall).

Plumbing issues are sneaky....so much damage happens behind what looks to be good surface. And given the movement of water, it cast evil further than you think. Ohhh, those "little leaks & drips" just grow without telling for a long time. Damages!
I had a tub to shower conversion done, handyman came well recommended. Eighteen months later I have a crawlspace company here for a moisture barrier estimate, and the worker shows me a photo he took...the shower drain was never attached to the main drain, but has been emptying in the crawlspace. The HVAC ductwork was damaged ($) and the plumber had to attach the drain properly ($).

I hate plumbing issues.
