I had always thought that rate of maturity is correlated with age of puberty and/or length of gestation. It turns out this is not the case! Rate of maturity, which is the time when an animal starts to deposit fat instead of muscle, has nothing to do with nor has any affect on when a heifer or bull will reach puberty or sexual maturity nor with length of gestation.

So that explains why its always the scrawny liced up 8 month old bull from neighbouring farm that breakes in and breeds your prise cow

Serious now - Thanks Karin for finding that but I need time to run it around my old brain cells

Have you determined yet if they are 'mature' brain cells or just old? lol :D

Very interesting stuff. The Canadian article was easier for my head to process, being so old and all.:)
