I have a nubian who just developed a cheek lump. It's not in the throat, it's right on the side of the face.

We're going to call the vet on Monday, but is there anything we can do? Do these tend to just go away on their own or do they always require intervention?

Depending on size, exact location, tenderness, feel.....it's MOST LIKELY something that has scratched, cut, punctured their mouth --- briar, stick, wire, etc. -- OR a bug/spider bite. Check inside mouth for damage.

Picture?

Here are the images. We are trying to look inside of the mouth - not easy with this guy. The bump is soft, not hard to the touch.
