Alright, so I am starting a new herd of chickens. Silkies if you must know. And we have chickens, but only one brooding hen. That's why I bought silkies! Well, my family said "To-hell-with-it" and will not tell me the secret ingredients for chick feed!

...

We normally make our food for chicks from day one to day none.
What should i make chick feed outta?

HELP!

It is generally recommended, especially for chicks, to use a nutritionally balanced complete feed from the store. Supplementing with free ranging as adults is certainly encouraged, but IMO it is quite unrealistic to just feed your chickens forage AND expect them to be highly productive. Especially with silkies, designer birds that couldn't be more different than the chickens our grandparents raised.

x2 Silkies are horrid foragers and you should just stick with a store bought feed.
