How are Large Black boars with the piglets? This is a question we get asked frequently. The answer is that they are wonderful. Here is Mick sharing his breakfast with some piglets.

I have been watching him to see how he would react. He is only 18mths old so still young but he never snaps at the young ones (or anyone for that matter!)

lol CH - see you have some rocks in there pecking away - we love Plymouth Rocks here to
ok I'm taking the cam down for morning feed time and get a shot of Bob with 10 week olds sharing his breakfast LB boars are the best- he shares with the little guys but gets a little grouchy when a sow gets in there. It all comes down to mouth size and how much you can scoop up in one movement

Ksalvagno - compared to the chickens I would say just short of 3 months and the fact that the boys still have their nuts means a promising future for those guys solving a little bit of the LB boar the waiting list??????? hard to tell off someone elses pics

How old are the piglets?
That photo was taken just this past week and there are actually two litters of piglets being raised together up in that pasture. They were 6 to 6 1/2 weeks old. We actually wait to castrate after weaning - I know not the optimum age BUT because we are raising breeding stock it sometimes takes that long to see which piglets are going to be good breeders & which are not. Although we have watched them throughout this last few weeks on weaning day they really get the critical eye. We only keep the best as breeders & on that day the culled boars get to take a trip to the vets to be castrated. The culled females stay here to be raised as feeders, we do not sell them.

We have many different breeds of chickens here & they wander everywhere which is great as they keep the tick, chigger & bug population down. Of course they also lay yummy eggs :)
