Agree, looks like some proud flesh starting. Wow, that pickling lime sounds a little tingly! 🤔

I used Schreiners herbal spray. No proud flesh, no infection, no objection by horse. Healed very well, sides in and virtually no scaring. Check it out, Schreiners.com.

Apparently proud flesh, at least fresh and still quickly growing proud flesh does not have nerves in it. It does have a TON of blood vessels in it which is why they bleed so bad if you have to cut the proud flesh back surgically. The chemical burning kind of pushes the blood back so they just weep a little blood when you remove the scab but no actual bleeding.

It IS nasty stuff and you do need to make sure you don't get it on healthy skin which is why you put down the Vaseline first to keep the lime from contacting the skin directly.

I do know that the horse I was doing this on did not object to the lime or act like it hurt to have the scab removed and a bandage put back over it.
