:) Hi All:

I bought two Yorkshire/Berkshire cross piglets, sisters, they are 7 1/2 weeks old now. One is very sweet - she takes treats right out of my hand, and permits me to pet her and rub her tummy. Her sister does not. If I approach her she runs like crazy, and squeals her head off. What can I do to tame her - or at least calm her down? :hu

My uneducated pig suggestion would be the sister just needs a bit more time. I think you are doing well. Keep working with the sweet one and let the other come when she is ready. I know it's upsetting to you, but I really think the sister will come around once she sees what the sweet one is in no danger. That she really has nothing to fear. IMHO all animals are individuals and they all relax and adapt in their own time. We just need patience and understanding.

You'll get there. :) Would love to see them.

Thank you! I'll just continue to work with her :) The pink piglet is the sweet one - the spotted one is her more challenging sister....

They are so cute! I have 3 PBPs, and one of the females has always been standoffish. If she gets close enough for me to touch her and I barely brush her with my fingertips, she squeals like she just got branded and runs away. I think pigs just have different personalities, and some don't want to be touched. I'm not sure my girl will ever be friendly like my other two (who love back scratches and belly rubs) and trying to force it seems to have the opposite effect. Good luck with your little squealer, though----she is still pretty young and may grow out of it.

She is slowly getting freindlier - I found that she loves over ripened blueberries, and allowed me to pet her back as I hand fed her. And now she loves my shoelaces, untying them mostly  But you're right, she has a distictly different personality than her sister. She runs and plays like crazy, she's just not that interested in human contact. That's ok, that's what I have dogs for :woot
