Any guesses as to what my little mare is? I think she is part Arabian but I have very little horse experience. She is on the smaller side, the last time I measured her she was 12.2hh. I got her in October when she was hardly more than a bag of bones and was ate up with rain rot and sunburnt. She is now fatter and happier and possibly pregnant... or at least has been developing an udder for the past ten days or so. I was just curious as to any opinions since this is my first post on the horse part of BYH... I've always been more of a goat person until now lol.

Journey when I first got her

Oh and can anyone help me with color? I have had a lot of difficulty in trying to figure that one out on my own.

looks like she was a black gone gray pinto. The Blue eye and the snip are indications she possibly carries the Splash (pinto/paint) gene. The white long the back and over the neck indicate she possibly carries the Tobiano gene. I'd call her a pattern a tovero. She looks like a baby when you got her. How long have you had her?

I got her last October so have had her for 6 months or so. She did look like a baby when I got her and was told that she was only a yearling but upon further research I have been able to figure out she was about 2 1/2 instead. Looking at her picture then and now she almost looks like a different horse altogether lol. As far as her color goes, she actually has a golden tint to her now that her hair has grown back. In the first three pics she had hardly any hair at all, her mane was only a couple of inches long much like a foal's.

why do you think she's part arab? She doesn't look arab to me in the photos, but i could be missing something. is she gaited? she looks like she has that structure to me and iirc foxtrotters can be small.

Someone told me that she looked like she had Arab in her due to the size and shape of her head. I'm not really sure if she's gaited, as I said I'm a novice to horses. When I'm out with Journey this evening I'll watch her for a while and see if I can tell.

she is cute. i'd guess maybe welsh or connamera cross. arabs can be small, but not usually in the 12hh range. my old style arabs can be under 14hh, but not much usually.

my guess for what it's worth, grulla tobiano for color, welsh and ??cross. probably another pony with the spotted pattern. at her age, and you have had her 6 months, i would like to see her back bone completely covered with more flesh, so don't stop treating her with special care. grass is coming on strong here, in fact a couple of mine are getting quite plump.

Buckskin tobiano crossbred. Maybe a bit of mustang in there. She does have a pretty head but it's Paint more than Arabian. She needs a lot more weight than she currently has. You shouldn't see any bones, especially not the spine. I'm sure you're feeding her up after her tough life so keep going & maybe step up the pace on the fattening. Good luck, she looks like a sweet girl.
