Hey guys,

I have dorper sheep and would like to treat them with a dewormer that doesn't contain chemicals.
Overall I like to improve their health.Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for this concept?

Thanks!

Are you familiar with Hoegger supply? They carry an herbal dewormer. I've used it on my goats. They like it but I still have fecal samples done every so often to make sure they check out OK. You are right to worry about the chemical wormers. The parasites that infect our animals are building resistance to the chemical wormers, that worries me too. I love my goats :)

Couldn't find my catalog, went and got the wormer. The herbal compound by Hoegger supply has wormwood, gentian, fennel, psyllium and quassla. I do not know if this safe for sheep, but I figured you could look up the ingreds. and cross reference with sheep info.

Look up Garlic Barrier...we use that with Apple Cider Vinegar...but as a preventitive for worms.

Should a case of bottle jaw show up, I wouldn't hesitate to treat with Cydectin....not natural, but am not willing to lose a sheep to worms.

So far the monthly drenching of Garlic Barrier mixture is working well here.

I used Cydectin before but I just want to start implementing non-chemical treatments.
Don't worry I have plenty of chemical dewormers in hand, just in case.
I have heard of Garlic Barrier before but I looked it up online and its usage is to keep insects off garden plants.
How does it work on sheep?I definitely use apple cider vinegar monthly as well.

I deworm my dogs with pumpkin seeds. I have been giving it to the goats too and haven't had any signs of worms yet.
Wouldn't pumpkin seeds just sit in their abdominal cavity and eventually come out in their stool 5-9 hrs later?
I might have to look for more information about that.
Thanks anyways!

That site may be helpful for you. I use one Tablespoon of garlic barrier per adult sheep and half that amount for lambs. I mix it with some molasses and add vitamin E and liquid Vitamin B's...and probiotics, then make the rest of the container with Apple Cider Vinegar to make 60 cc per adult sheep and 30 cc per lamb.

How the pumpkin and /or large, old yellow squash work...sheep eat it with the cut up pumpkin or squash (lots of vitamins) and worms latch onto the seeds, and pass out when they poop...air and sun kill the worms in a short time. We plant extra crook neck yellow squash just for the sheep. Haven't had much luck growing pumpkins. Sheep love the squash, it's good for them and the seeds are supposed to help with worms.

Someone told me that mixture is highly toxic to sheep due to copper being present.
Not too sure what to believe now.

Some recipes call for red cell...that does have copper and we don't use it at all. Garlic barrier does not have copper, nor Apple Cider Vinegar.

We never use red cell due to the copper.

If our mixture had copper in it, all our sheep would be dead by now since we drench this mixture monthly to avoid worms.

This has been working for us going on 6 years...but I am not a vet...you may want to ask a vet about your concerns before using it.
