Hello all, after lots of running around to stores, I have two options available for navel dip on our new goat kid. Sorry to post twice in this thread as it is two questions and I have just been trying to do my best to help this kid. I would appreciate any help on which to choose and how to use it or dilute it or mix with alcohol as I have read in other areas but I am having a hard time finding info for this specifically trying to use what I could get. How often to apply? Thank you!:

I have
- 2% Chlorhexidine Solution (2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate)
- 10% Povidone-Iodine Solution
- 70% Isopropyl Alcohol

Thank you again

Iodine is the tried and true.

Hope this helps:

"The goat's umbilical cord should be dipped with a 7% iodine solution. If you can only find 10% solution, dilute it in a 7:3 ratio with purified water. Dip all the way to the belly, repeating any time the kid is handled in the first 24-48 hours post-birth (Bowen, 2014).Mar 31, 2022"

@frustratedearthmother - thank you for your help. I was so very debated, I didn't know if that particular iodine was right so I went ahead and did a clorohexidine 2% solution dip but he was not loving that so I will do the iodine solution tonight.
