Need Easy/inexpensive Run-in for donkey ideas.

This is new to me! He'll be coming to live with us in a couple weeks. I need to build a shelter for him while he is getting acquainted with my goats. I have an open stall for my two wether goats when it rains and thought the donk could share when they are all together. At first I thought I would put him in an area next to the goats, so that he can get used to them, I would like to put a shelter in his first area, and was thinking a cattle panel hoop coop covered with heavy duty plastic. I use these for my chickens and ducks and they like them, has anyone used it for a donkey?

My donkey is older and definitely is not as comfortable in the rain or cold as my cattle. A hoop shelter would work fine. I tend to use whatever I have laying around not being used. Cedar posts, couple old sheets of tin roof and I'm in business. 😀

I used one for an ancient TB mare... well.. it was actually a shelter for her food so that it could sit out all day and she could nibble and wander, nibble and wander. She had NO problem with it.
If you can make it sort of long and low, you could bed up the middle nicely and not worry about rain blowing in from the open ends.

I have a hoop shelter for my sheep. It was open at both ends, but right before a week of freezing weather I closed off the north end, with 2 pallets and 2 sheets of tin. Then I put pallets down the sides to help block wind.

Don’t use the blue tarps, they shred. I zip tied split foam pipe wrap on one edge to help keep the panels from rubbing and poking holes in the tarp. Get the heavy duty tarp.
Instead of using the grommets in the corners to tie it on, make a knot just above the grommet/corner and tie rope above the knot. Grommets rip out. Knots don’t.
