Hi all,
Glad to have found this forum! :) We've registered over at Sufficient Self at the same time, and were first members on BackYard Chickens.

We're in Eastern Ontario (Canada) at the moment, and are hoping to be moving east, to Nova Scotia, in about a year. So far we've got chickens, ducks, a dog and a cat, but are hoping to add some sheep, a guardian dog or two and possibly a llama or donkey to the mix. Ah yes, and some geese! And, personally, I think another cat or two would never go amiss.. ;) I see us being overrun in a very short amount of time!

I've been reading the thread on "non USDA methods of raising animals", and can say that sort of stuff is right up our alley! Very much in line with what we want to do, and how we want to raise our animals (and OURSELVES, for that matter!).

Very much looking forward to sifting through the large amounts of experience and knowledge that are available on these sites.....thank you all for sharing! We, in turn, can share our "lessons learned" (read: "don't do what we did"..lol!). ;)

Cheers,
Cindi & Matt

Thanks for the welcome, guys! :D

Nice to see some fellow Ontarians here too. :)

Henrietta: I'm originally from Nova Scotia, and am really excited about the prospect of moving back! Not to mention the insanely cheap land prices there...lol Looks like we will have our 100 acres after all! :woot:

Northeastern Ontario has cheap properties too--up around the Timmins area. I used to live there, but, otoh, Nova Scotia is nice. If their taxes are cheaper, it's a big plus.

From what I can tell the taxes are cheap and, almost even better, the winters are milder. ;) Lots of snow, from what I remember, but definitely tend to be a bit warmer thanks to the moderating effect of the ocean... We were looking north of Kingston for a little bit, but the prices were likely higher than they are up around Timmins..
