OK, how many goats do you have and whatever number it is it isn't enough and you must increase by at least one in the next month and two the month after...just kidding. We are all enablers and goats are addictive, be careful.

There is wealth of knowledge on this forum so ask away if you have questions and welcome to BYH from sunny, hot, CA.

Lol @babsbag, thank you @TAH. We just have one 10 week old Bour buck. We just got him yesterday, he has diarrhea this morning and we're worried about that for the moment but also we would love to get him to where he likes being handled.

Greetings and welcome to BYH and goat ownership. Goats are herd animals and generally do better as a pair (or more...). they kinda need another goat companion... we humans just don't make very good goats I guess... who woulda known? I've been called an "old goat" more than I care to admit... :hide

Congrats on your new buck! Are you going to keep him as a buck or wether (castrate) him? If you don't intend to get him some ladies at some point with the intention of making more little goats, you really should wether him. Come fall when he starts rut behaviors, you might wish that you did. They can make themselves and anyone who gets within reach of them, pretty fragrant!

As for the scours (diarrhea), it may be cocci, it may be stress from the change of environment, it may be a parasite bloom from the move. It could be due to a change in diet. Would be a good idea to get a fecal run and make sure it's nothing serious. Do you have a vet nearby who is knowledgeable about goats? NOT a "pet" vet but a farm animal vet?

Anyway, glad you joined us! there's a wealth of info and shared experience in the threads. Browse around :caf and make yourself at home. If you have any questions, just post em' and someone will most likely be around in no time to help. We have great folks on here!

Just love him up! We just LOVE our Saanen buck Dage up and he actually WAGS his tail when he gets a rub down. It is just too cute!

Welcome to the world of goats :)

I don't want to scare you, but you need to have a fecal run on him ASAP! Coccidia is a huge killer of goat kids, it has been a bad year for many. Cocci can take them down fast, you don't have much time once they start scouring. He is in his prime for a cocci bloom. The stress of people, being alone, and transport are all high stress factors- causing the bloom. He is at the prime age for cocci as well.

Yes, it could very well be diet related but many have lost kids this year to cocci. You need to have him checked NOW.
