So I rescued another goat. I was told that she was born on July 30th, which would make her 7 weeks old. However, I think she is older because she is swollen and my male that is 8 weeks is chasing her around and making all kinds of strange sounds. My question is when do they usually come in season or how do I really tell if she is in season? I am new to the goat world.

What a cutie! I love her markings! I am new to goats also, but I was warned that if I bought a buckling that I'd have to keep him seperate from my doelings until he was old enough to be wethered as bucklings they can impregnate a doe as young as 7-8 weeks.

Thank you for the information. I rescued both of my goats from 2 different homes, where they were not taken care of. I have separated the two of them. I’m not looking to have babies right now, maybe down the road.

She looks like a nigerian if so they breed year round and they can come into their first heat pretty early. So i would agree seperate. Normally the buck and does will act interested if in season and i believe its every 21 days they come back into season(season being heat). Some does have a silent heat which simply means they dont act much different. Also they need to have no shared fencing as they can breed through fencing. I cant remember the age most of the smaller breeds can start to come into heat but i dont think its much different then the large breeds at 3 month or a few will come into it sooner.
