Welcome Mazoo....

While I raise goats, I suspect yours may be different type and care needed. Same with the sheep & cattle other members raise. Tell us about your livestock, type, use, etc. We all learn from one another 🙂 Oh, we love pictures!

I suspect Kenya offers challenges we in the USA do not have.

:welcome

I echo all that @Mini Horses said... I am on the opposite side of the same state as Mini..... in fact we get together twice a year at an annual poultry swap, with all sorts of other goods offered... Have a great time walking and looking and catching up.

My DS .... meaning "darling son" as you will see many people referring to DH (husband) or DIL (daughter in law) that sort of thing.... anyway, we raise mostly beef cattle on our farm... we are a bigger farm than many on here, but I am a homesteader type at heart.... Here we have mostly black angus, some red angus and limousin, and some charolais, and many crossbreds of these breeds. We are not a purebred operation, we raise commercial cattle for the calves to be sold for other operations to finish out for beef. Known as a cow/calf operation. I also still work part-time in the dairy industry as a milk tester on commercial sized dairy farms...

Tell us more about your type and breeds/crosses of animals...

Welcome!
I'm on the opposite side of the US from most everyone here - I'm in Southern California (close to Mexico). Sheep here and dogs that move and graze the sheep. It's lambing time for me right now.
Hope to see more about your farm.

Welcome Mazoo! I’m in East Texas, it is pine forest land and green pastures with mostly cattle. I have 25 acres. Because of the rain, moisture and humidity, parasites (worms) can be a big problem. I raise Katahdin hair sheep which are mostly parasite resistant. Sheep and goats are mostly in West Texas where it is drier, rocky, scrub land.

Predators here are coyotes, bobcats, the occasional cougar also know as mountain lion, and black head vultures that will swoop down on animals giving birth, kill the baby and sometimes the momma by eating her alive from the back end.

I have Anatolian Shepherds to keep predators away. They bark a warning and predators go elsewhere for an easier meal that they don’t have to fight for.

300 acres is a big place! Would love to hear how you care for your farm and the animals. Feel free to post lots of pictures!
