We have 2 PBPs that we've raised from piglets at 8weeks. Piggie is 3yrs & 140lbs, and Zongo is 2yrs & 125lbs. Both are fixed and live indoors. They're best friends... now.
A week ago we rescued another pig, Chops, who had been housed outside, improperly fed and tormented by the previous family's children (his second family). He's approximately 10 months old and about 70lbs. He's also neutered. He's taken very well to becoming an inside pig and is adjusting nicely to my 2 legged family members.
My problem is the fighting. I *know* pigs fight to establish rank. I know it can get ugly.
We kept Chops mostly caged for the first few days, only letting him out when the other pigs were elsewhere. There was plenty of cage biting by all parties. Now we've been trying to let them together when supervised in neutral ground, either outside (weather permitting) or the living room. When they fight, there is not one pig who totally backs down. They both seem to stop for a break, get bored, and wander off, Which of course means they fight violently again later. Or if someone does back down, they start again later anyway. I've only broken them up once or twice.
Is there anything I can do to help speed up this battle royal? Piggie and Zongo sorted out their initial rank pretty fast, so this long battle has me concerned. How long can these fights take?
Any insight is appreciated! Thanks!
