Hello, I have just got my first herd of sheep...6 shetland lambs and a 1 1/2 year old Ewe.

We have them in a small paddock right now, of 24 x 24 ft. they have eaten quite a bit of that and we havebeen supplementing with a little hay.

So what size pasture would you recommend? We have 10 acres. We are thinking of having them free ranging whilst we are at home.
What do you think?

I just bought 2 Shetland lambs too and from what I've read experts recomment at least and acre for 6 sheep and maybe 3 different paddocks. Right now I only have 1 area for them because they are only 5 & 6 weeks old, but next spring we will have another area electric fenced in for them to graze. I'm hoping as well to free range in my backyard while I'm home (work part-time). I love you pics!

Really nice sheep. What are you using them for, wool, meat or both? I need to explain to my husband I could get more sheep. We have 25 acres but less grass so I would say 6 to 11/2 acre maybe. He'll love that ha ha.
