Hi everyone! My family and I are looking into buying and living on a farm. We're checking out Maryland next week. Looking at Washington and Frederick county. The plan is to grow organic produce and raise farm animals to sustain ourselves and sell directly to the public. Eventually we'd like to have a market, offer a CSA and hold festivals on the property. My husband is a talented woodworker and will have a shop on the property where he can work and sell his pieces.
I have a backround in horticulture and am reading A LOT about farmsteading and organic farming. We currently have a small flock of chickens who provide us with their lovely eggs.
So, I'm interested in learning about raising other barnyard animals. We'd like a cow, a couple of goats, sheep for milk and fiber. I'd like to know which breeds are recommended and about their basic needs. Thanks so much!
