ok i have a 5 week old pygmy doe and an 9 week old nubian will be 10 weeks old on friday that was castrated about 3 weeks ago closser to 4 weeks to be on the safe side when do i need to seperate them to make sure that she is not accidently breed. he still trys to hump but the vet says it was done correctly but i still do not want to chance it since she is way to yound plus when she is a year old i would like to breed her to a male pygmy. i know it is crazy but i have heard stories that people had there males castrated and still mated. the humping has started to slow down and he does not do it as much as he use to in the begining few weeks. how do i know that it has been done right. i would like to keep them together so they can play together but like i said do not want to take chances he is still poitent. i know i am going to get a few laughs i have only been a goat owned for almost 10 weeks. will the humping stop so they can stay together so they can play and not be alone.

In 99.9% of the cases where a castrated male is still fertile it is because of a botched castration. Mounting is something they will do. My castrated male attempts to occasionally mount a female and is nearly 3 and hasn't had nuggets since he was 8 weeks old.

The way a castration is usually botched is that they are banded but both nuggets aren't below the band. If you check his sack and you feel two little bumpies then it's fine. Especially since if it has been 3 weeks they are probably starting to shrivel up.

It is very rare for a properly castrated male to be able to successfully breed a doeling.... The new wether should stop the bucky behavior soon... just needs to have the excess hormones fade out. They should be fine to hang out with each other.

If your vet cut the male, then I would say you are safe. I am sure a vet would make sure that he got both testicles when he cut. It is probably just hormones and playfulness making your boy try and mount the girl.
