Hello all! My husband Dan and I (Heather) joined this forum along with the other backyard forums today. We recently moved in to our 1800's farm house on 40 acres and became turn-key farmers. Chickens, ducks, pigs, cows, calves, and in the future, turkeys! While very exciting there have also been a few stressful moments on the homestead. We were thrilled to discover this support group and look forward to soaking in as much knowledge as possible! We have 4 boys and homeschool so this farm has provided many lessons for them and they absolutely love it!

Welcome!

Where in the world is your farm?

Neat buildings with the stone foundations.

Old stone can be a bunch of work (so I have been told... we only have a few stone footers on the old buildings on the family homestead)

I have 5 boys, and my spouse and I have homeschooled the lot of them.

Having them be fully responsible for a particular pen or animal has been great for their character development.

Thank you! We are in Mid-Michigan zone 4b. Ah yes the stone. That is one of many future projects. The barn once was double this size and we plan to bring it back to it's former glory. Happy to meet some fellow homeschoolers and boy parents! We couldn't agree more, they sure do love the farm life too! Since moving here we've already noticed the positive effects it's had on the boys. :D

We are thankful to have a woodstove here as well. I'm sure even Michigan can't hold a candle to an Alaska snow! Our boys are 9, 7, 4, and 2. The older two chop with Dad's supervision and all of them help with the hauling. You just can't teach that in a school room!
