I have 6 (3 does & 3 kids) Boer/Kiko cross "brush goats". I'm deciding to either buy buck to kid them out or some sheep. I live in Socal and been having a hard time finding Boer or Kiko bucks that are less than $500. Another problem that I have is I don't have trailer so I need it delivered. I'm just looking for a good looking buck doesn't need papers and have to full blooded.. I did find a Nigerian Dwarf for $250 with papers. Its a really good looking buck. The height is 24in my does are in between of 24-30in will this be a problem with breeding? Another option that I have is a craigslist add for a pregnant and non pregnant sheep mix of Dorper and Barbado . They are asking for $425 OBO with delivery. What would you do? Do you know where I can get a large sized goat buck for breeding. Is this price fair for sheep? Has anyone mated Boers with Nigs? I'm breeding for a pet/livestock brush goat.

Small buck on normal sized does should work fine..

Do you not want to cart the buck in your car because of the smell?

My big question on the bucks.... have any been tested for disease?

I know nothing about sheep.

Every area has different prices on hair sheep, you just need to look around and see what people seem to actually be selling livestock for. Not amount asking for, actual sold price. I tend to find if i look thru craigslist and FB area groups I will get a good idea of prices. In my area FB also tends to have tested animals.

Boer's and Kiko's are expensive here as well usually. Anything over 50% full blood is over $300, you can find deals on "boer" bucks from time to time and get them for $200 or less. That's all in my area, yours might be very different.

Yes you can breed boer/kiko to nigerian's but keep in mind the kids will be smaller and the adults from the breeding will also be smaller and may not serve as well for brush goats. Nigerians tend to be lazy little buggers and get overweight easily, as well as limited reach for brush clearing.
