We just got four Nigerian dwarf goats. We have two bucks and two does. The bucks have been banded. They are all about nine weeks old. Do I need to keep them separated? They have only been banded for a week now. I do not want the little does getting pregnant. I’ve tried looking everywhere for information on when we can put them back together.

They are still fertile for a few weeks to a few months. If the does are cycling...
They may or may not be.

So keep them away for a few months? Or how do I know if the does are in heat? They aren’t being noisy. It’s hard to know if they are acting different because I haven’t had them that long. We have a big space for our goats but it’s very hard to keep them separated.

You will probably be fine, but separating for at least two weeks after banding is what I hear recommended the most. Up to you.
