Hi, I'm new to the group, but not terribly new to pigs. We've raised pigs on and off for about 5 years.

My question is this...we always worm our pigs at least twice before they are old enough to breed. This time for whatever reason, our sow didn't get wormed before being breed. We weren't sure she was even bred there for awhile and I was scared to worm her just in case. She had her piglets last night. They are all fine and nursing well. But I wondered if I should try to worm her now or if I should just wait until the piglets wean? Will she be ok? I haven't been able to find any info specific to my situation...and I didn't know if I should worm her while she's nursing. I assume I shouldn't. But if I can I think I should. I see no visible signs of worms, but you never know. I don't want to take any chances. We try not to give our animals many meds. The fewer, the better IMHO.

I would appreciate any advice!

Blessings,
Maranda

All I can tell you is from our personal experience with heritage breed pigs - primarily Large Blacks but also some GOS & Red Wattles. Our pigs are all on pasture. We worm the piglets at 8 weeks old & rarely worm after that unless we see a problem. SO I wouldn't worry about it. If you worm the piglets when you wean them they should be fine - could also do the sow then if you wanted.
