Hi everyone ... I recently acquired two male "rescue" donkeys. I say I've rescued them because although I bought them their previous home was lacking.

Besides hay, which they received free choice, they were also being fed rider horse pellets (1kg each twice a day i.e 2kg/day).
The one donkey, Tequila, is overweight. I think he was chasing the other donkey, Taco, off his food as well because Taco is very defensive around his feeding trough and not at all overweight.

So, I've started reducing the amount of pellets they're getting a little each day (I've only had them for two weeks) and they still have their bale of hay.

Everything I've read said just good quality straw is needed?
Is there anything else I should be doing as far as feeding goes?

Thoughts and comments will be appreciated.

Halter and tie them to feed them if possible. Hang buckets on a corral board or post and tie them. Cut way down on the feed, especially for Mr. Tubby. LOL

Good quality hay instead of straw. For the overweight one, reduce his feed more. Are they both stallions or geldings?
