Most pigs should do this just fine. It's a natural behavior of pigs, and I'm sure it would work (although unfortunately I to haven't tried it before!!). Since you'll be getting pigs for meat, you can choose what kind of pig you like based on the meat you want. However, larger pigs will be more powerful rooting up larger stumps.

Sort of off topic, but with all this bacon topic, I feel pretty out of place!! Being vegan and all, although I love farm animals and love to keep them simply as pets, this isn't exactly a place for pro-vegetarian discussions to take place ;).
Hope I helped!

Pigs do better at getting the stumps out after a couple of years when the roots have started rotting a bit, they dig down to get the grubs out of the rotting wood. My Yorkshires dig the pasture up alot more than the Poland China do, so look for a breed or mix that are known for rooting and digging.

Is there a specific age at which they become more proficient at rooting? Total newbie question - I know
