Well Beavis and Butthead are now big and ready to go to the processor on Dec 6th. They will be about 5 months old, and my GUESS is that they will weigh about 170lbs. Butthead is a little smaller than Beavis- she is more aggressive and just a big ole girl!

I heard processing a female hog in heat will mess up the meat. When do they go into heat, how can I tell and what the heck can I do?!?!? Scheduling this processing date is a big deal and all slots are booked up. So I HAVE to take her on this date. If this is even true- what can I do?
Any suggestions?

Also how can I get an idea of how much they weigh? Is there a measuring trik I can do to get an idea?

Thanks so much.

Sows/gilts in heat are fine, as long as they haven't been recently bred by a boar. The boars leave a musky taste to the meat. As to their size, it's impossible to know without seeing them.
