I’m so sorry. I know she is getting the best of care, but there are some things we just can’t fix.

She died sometime between 10p and midnight last night. I did a quick necropsy this morning before work and didn’t find anything glaringly off. She had hay/grass in her rumen, but nothing in the rest of her stomach or in her intestines so I’m thinking she basically had some type of gastroparesis.

If I ever get used to losing Livestock, if ever it does not hit me in the gut, then it will be time to quit.
That said, no I don’t have a breakdown when one of my animals dies. I have my select few that produce waterworks, but only my favorites. I’m talking about a bad feeling, what else could I have done, apologizing to a dead animal and feeling bad about it.
I used to cry a lot more, somehow with BJ passing away, then immediately hit with loss after loss after loss, I had to learn how to deal with it differently.
It hurts, it makes me sad, but on a farm, I can’t fall apart every time something goes wrong. I’m pretty sure a lot of people here are on the same page.

I am sad about Jemima, but I did not have a breakdown. She was a good girl, but I was already debating what to do with her before she got sick. She was 7 and I have nicer, younger ewes coming up behind her and limited space in the barn. She was nice enough/productive enough that I didn’t want to send her to the sale, but she’s not one that I wanted to retire here.

I got some snuggles from the boys this morning. This is the first time that Snap (the brown one) has come over and actually let me pet him.

Piggies are here! They’re my BIL’s, but they are penned on my property.
Sold 4 of the turkeys yesterday.
Oskar had a few meltdowns recently. I temporarily put took his boys away from him and put him with the ewes. He’s back with the boys now. It also got hot this week with rain and thunderstorms so he had another meltdown because he wanted in to the barn so he could lay on the concrete.

Sold a Shetland ewe lamb this afternoon to a nice family that has a few sheep as fiber pets.
I’ve now sold over 1/2 of the lambs I’d like to sell.
