I was looking at a little pygmy goat yesterday and was considering buying him. I found out that last year the family had a wether on their farm that had CL. What are the chances that this little goat has CL or was exposed to it and bringing CL home with us if I do purchase it?

CL is very contageous and can get into the soil and stay for a long time. I wouldn't chance if it were me.

It is enough of a chance that I would not take. Better to find a good healthy animal.

I personally wouldn't chance it, but it may be worth nothing that there's a blood test for CL.. If he tested negative and you bought him, you could probably clean him up (scrub his feet, etc) and quarantine him for a few months to be sure.. If he didn't pop a big CL knot somewhere, he'd probably be OK to introduce once the quarantine is over.

That's a lot of work for a little wether, though.. Like I said...I'd pass, personally.
