Hello, JerseyGiantfolk from BYC.

(Hopefully the right category... the first bold question is my main question...)

I am planning to raise a Dairy heifer a couple years from now. (And I have been doing my studying)

So here's my questions:

I would like to know how much space a heifer needs (sq ft).

Your opinions on feeding (i.e. brand of feed/type/opinions)

And do they get along with other animals?

Thank you.
Any other information would be appreciated.

According to my textbook, Modern Livestock & Poultry Production, beef cattle in an unsurfaced feedlot need 300-800 square feet per head plus 30 square feet of covered shelter. In the dairy chapter, it just gave space requirements for in free stall and tie stall barns, so I went to the beef chapter and looked at the space requirements in a feedlot, since from your question it sounds like you are going to dry lot your heifer.

In the feeding sub-chapter in the dairy section, it has various sample rations...but I don't know how old the heifer in question is so I don't know which set of rations to post.

find a local feed dealer-- tell them the age and kind of heifer you have-- and they'll fix you up with what you need.

Will work best, and be the highest quality feed for that heifer.
