rachels.haven 2026 kidding,lactation&farm journal

Yesterday I grew a spine and told someone I would not hold a goat that I "priced to move" for an undetermined amount of time because that would defeat the purpose of "priced to move".

Today I double grew a spine and told someone else who wanted me to break up and hold 5 of my egg eaters for them so they could "rescue" them from me that I did not hold free or cheap livestock and if they wanted them held they'd definitely not be free.

Duh. I hold all the cards. I have what they want. They don't have anything I want. They're not doing me a favor. I'm doing them a favor. They can come and get it at my convenience or not....and then we'll eat the livestock instead.

And when I'm selling something I want to charge full price for maybe I'll provide full price service, but right now the cheap goats I got from a local breeder that wound up with bad front ends are cheap and do not come with those services and the free egg eating chickens are first come, first serve.
First come first serve... ON A PLATE or in a soup pot....

216 days into lactation with the la-nubes and we need another hoof trim. Battle ensued. Did not get yeeted off the stand this time. The Idiot Rails were deployed. Hooves were trimmed. Threats of hamburger and sausage were made. I was again informed I am not to put my lowly filthy hands on their royal selves in any way again as they strutted their beautiful stretchy selves back to the pen. One is even a bottle baby-doesn't matter. Dumb snob. Smart enough to have opinions, dumb enough to refuse to co-operate because it wasn't their ideas. (Their ideas are usually stupid and a danger to themselves and others. Why did I make this cross again? Oh yes, Nubian beauty on a Lamancha and because my nubian buckling at the time would rather chase fallen leaf snacks than breed does.)

But their butterfat and milk poundage exceeds that of the ND. And about 30% of the time they behave...and that average is probably excluding the next few days when they still remember the Great April hoof trimming scandal.

I kind of wonder if butterfat = Idiocy quotient.

Anyway, 5 ND, 3 la-nubians, 1 mini, and 1 lamancha trimmed today.
