Finally hooked up my computer so here is a week's worth of activities . . . .

Left around noon on Thursday. First we had to help move the ram to his girls, then moved the sheep sorter and DH removed the hitch. He and DS1 decided the hitch bar was too short for the tractor so we brought it to CA. DH has to have some work done on the trailer brake connection for the 5th wheel at Ekhart and is having Ekhart either extend it or make a longer one. Hit some rain on the first leg. Made it to Amarillo and stopped at the BW that DH swore he would never go to again. There were 2 others so I checked them but no elevator. They did have trailer parking but DH decided to stop at the one he hated because it had an elevator. It was a new one and because there was no trailer parking we had to park on the street on the other side of the motel. DH complained that their breakfast was horrible - no oven or something so no hot breakfast, and he had sworn never to stay there again BUT he wanted the elevator. o_O

At 3 am the phone woke us up. We went downstairs to meet with the police. Apparently someone had broken the rear passenger window out and robbed us. They looked in the cooler, probably for beer but found only water. They dumped out the glove box and center console. We thought they stole the disability placard but found it later. Maysie's duffel with her I-pad was on the ground outside the truck but the I-pad was still in it. The officer said that those things can be traced now so not worth stealing. We had taken our computer, DS3's scope, and our valuables into the motel so they got nothing. Then the officer found an open pocket knife on the ground. It belonged to the thief who used it to cut the zip ties holding the lid on the plastic tool box in the truck bed. (Nothing was taken since it was only full of tools for the truck.) Th offier put it in an evidence bag but since he didn't fingerprint the box or truck it probably won't be used except to see if any prints on th knife belong to anyone they have on their books. The officer said they had a lot of breakins in the area motels because of construction crews who left their tools in the trucks. Everything else was locked in the trailer. I always chain and padlock the doors. My family thinks I am silly to do so but I don't want to take chances. Anyway we filled out the police report with the officet and finally got back to bed around 4am. DH walked around the rest of the night and I tried to sleep. He finally went in the bathroom and texted all our children about the break in. The next day I got innumerable texts about it. I don't care about the elevator - even if we have to crawl upstairs we are never staying there again. The breakfast was mediocre at best too. Since I make the reservations, no problem there.

The next morning I swept all the broken glass out of the truck that I could before we left. Once on the road, I called repair places at our next stop but they had to order the window and said it wouldn't arrive before before Monday. This was Friday morning. The open window behind me was making a terrible buffeting racket punctuated by the occasional tinkle of more glass falling out. I finally called Nipomo and found a place which would have the window by Saturday but we would not be arriving until after closing. Since we were planning to stay wth DS3 and DDIL1 until Monday I made the appointment for Monday morning. DH had moved the tool box into the car and we stoped at a rest stop where he took the lid and placed it against the missing window. He said the heavy tool box and suitcase would keep it in place, but I got a hay rope (never travel without them) and tied the lid to the door frame. Good thing too since the vibration of the truck caused it to hang loose and it would have not done any good not tied up. We turned up the radio and AC and went on. Luckily it was overcast so cooler.

Had a pleasant time at DS3's. He and DH unloaded the 73 bales of alfalfa we picked up in AZ for DDIL1. We dropped the gooseneck, admired everything they had done, and had a nice dinner. DS3 showed us the tool bench he had made and their new rabbit barn. They have some super nice Californians.

You open it up and a small chop saw is attached underneath that swings up into position. He attached a small shop vac to it that sucks away the sawdust from either the table saw or the chip saw using some sort of special attachment.

Monday morning he had to leave for his job up in Fresno. We had the window fixed on Monday, hitched the flatbed, and arrived at the Shadow Hills house Monday evening.

This is not my house any longer. DS2 and DDIL2 have got everything moved around and the living room/dining room is a dedicated 15x35' playroom. The new baby is adorable. Tomorrow is his Baptism. There were several boxes of junk in DS1's room that the kids had moved in there for me to sort and get rid of. The day after we arrived DH visited with the kids and I sorted and packed up what we wanted from the boxes. I got the rest either tossed or ready for Goodwill. Next 2 days we had appointments and I bought packing paper and tape for the boxes. On Friday DH and DS2 went out checked the amount of brush clearance DGS1 and 2 had supposedly done - about 30 x 30'. DH was not happy but luckily he had already arranged for the brush clearance people to come up to trim the trees over the roof and do the clearance. I nobly refrained from reminding him that I said the grandsons would not do it. He called DD1 to find out why they had not gotten more done and she said they had been "busy" but were "planning on coming over for several hours on Saturday". It will take the brush clearance people 2 days, and 3 men to do the necessary clearance. DH was really angry. The grandsons could not understand why he was mad at them. We told them to be here at 9am. I went down to the milk shed and through the tool shed gatherig up the stuff I had set aside last time I loaded for TX. I spent the restt of the day packing boxes. I still have 2 other sheds and the Connex to empty.

On Saturday morning the boys had not shown up by 9 am so I called them. Everyone was still asleep at their house. :somad DH and DS2 went out and loaded the 20 bales of alfalfa from the Connex onto the flatbed. I went out to the Connexes and looked at what had to be moved. The hay Connex was empty with just DS2's double bed in it. I swept it out and got it ready to move stff from the other Connex. I plan to take the good furniture to Palm Springs to the consignment shop in October to sell. I started unloading the furniture from the other Connex - I had to get it out so I could walk in and see what all was in there. I moved the furniture at the rear of the Connex first. The Connexes have doors on both ends. I found a lot of good stuff that will sell well in Palm Springs. :D =D Some pieces I had offered to my kids but they were rather ambivalent and wanted me to store it until they decided whether they wanted it, so I have decided to sell it all. It has been there for several years and it s good qulity stuff. Once the furniture was out, I went throufgh everything on the shelves. I removed 2 of the 6' heavy duty shelving units which we are taking them to Texas. We can use them in the tool shed, tack room, and in the new Connex when DH gets it. They are $300 at Lowes and $200 at Costco so I saved us $400 right there. After moving everything around, I had an empty 4' unit as well but decided to leave it here for now. I moved everything we want to keep or sell into the other Connex so it is ready for us to move it in October. DH has another Ortho knee appointment then, and we have to return DS3's flatbed trailer and pick up our gooseneck. We plan to pick up alfalfa for next year's lambs on the way back too.

DDIL2 has not been feeling well since Alexander was born. He is 6 weeks old now but she told me that a couple weeks after the C-section her stitches had started bleeding and she was having pain in her abdomen and right side. Monday 5am DS2 woke us up to take care of the children while he took DDIL2 to the ER. They kept her and did tests for 2 days but finally sent her home with no diagnosis of what caused the pains. Her folks and sister came over to watch the children. I realized that DH and I would not be able to take care of toddlers anymore. That afternoon her sister took the older boys home with her. Marlene took Alexander home that night along with all the frozen breast milk. The hospital had given her a breast pump to pump milk since she was there for 2 days. DS2 took the milk to Marlene. All the tests were inconclusive so thy finally let her go after she was able to keep some food down. She went to her mom's house where her parents and 2 sisters could take care of her and the children. She is not allowed to lift anything over 10 lbs. except Alexander and he is 11 lbs. She will see her OB on Wednesday. She may have done too much after the C-section. DS2 took off several weeks for paternity leave and was taking care of the kids, but since he was here helping her she may have felt like she could do more too soon. Women tend to do that.

Anyway, we have gotten through half of the medical appointments, The trailer is half loaded, and I have emptied out the other small shed. It had a 6' shelf unit too so I took that apart and now we have 3 of them coming back to TX. My horse tack was in that shed and I found 3 nice saddles. I thought I only had two. One is a silvermounted leather saddle that came with Camalen, my TWH. I told DH I would leave it for DDIL1 but he said to take it to TX and sell it there. There were 2 large trunks of horse tack, and a flat plastic box of blankets. I moved some of the stuff that was there that I want to keep to the Connex to store until the October trip. I am getting rid of everythng we dont want to move so when we sell the house we will have less to remove.

DS1 wanted a cart to move the rams around to the breeding pastures. He had several things in mind including revamping the old abandoned single trailer in the hay area. DH and I saw a wheeled cage sitting out in front of a house in Shadow Hills with a For Sale sign on it. We stopped to look and it looked like our old pig cart except this only has a gate on one end. The pig cart had a gate on each end and was made of welded square tubing. This is made of square tubing with heavy gauge stock panel welded on. It has large solid wheels, rolls easily, and it was cheap! Yay! DS1 said he might be able to weld on a hitch tongue to tow it with Baby 'Bota. Or he can use the old trailer base and do something with this. Worst comes to worst, it loads into the truck bed. It is about 5'+ long and 30" wide with a slide up gate. DS1 said there is more $$ in the metal and wheels than we paid for it so a good deal. :D =D Happy Birthday DS1!

Makes me sooooo angry when vandals destroy our stuff. I could say "Chaps my hide" but I think swear words would be more appropriate.

When we were moving our son from San Jose to up here, we had two vehicles (me in mine, son in his) and DH drove the small UHaul truck. We had to stop overnight in Redding, but that I5 corridor is well known for its drug trafficking up and down the interstate. So I chose a smaller motel out of town, away from the freeway. Hub's Ram truck, Son's Tesla, and our UHaul were parked on the street in front of the hotel, and thank goodness none of them were broken into. I did not sleep well that night anyway, worrying about it.

As for the kids, yes, take what is yours and sell it.

Yep. They don't want it. Haven't before, don't now. Sell & use the $ yourself. Otherwise, they will sell & use $. Enjoy free funds & unload things now.

You saw as you walked into the house you once loved -- it is no longer your house. Clear your stuff out & settle on you new ranch in TX. Complete your new phase of life.
