Beginning to miss my old barn and lambing facility. Only 25' across the driveway to look through a window and check on lambing progress. Now ....
Exactly!! Cameras....get with it. I used them constantly when breeding minis -- they had an small device on their halter, under jaw. When they laid out (as most do when foaling) the device made my alarm buzz. I could look at a monitor and see if pushing or just sleeping. Sure saved me worrying and steps. If in labor, I'll grab my jeans laying by the bed and head on out.

Get cameras, at least you can check on them every time you wake all night long

I did think about cameras, particularly since we nw have electricity in the barn. 7088 lambed the day before Thanksgiving with twin rams, tiny things but healthy. BL14 lambed today with a larger single ewe lamb. I need to put up more jugs in the barn but cant because DS1 said he needs the folding pens to make a catch pen for the chute so we can retag those ewes. I told him we need to do that this weekend so I can put up more jugs. He agreed. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy though so . . . .

He also said he needs to insulate our water spigots and well head before the cold weather hits. He has the foam stuff to do that and this weekend is the time he has scheduled. He also plans to get the Christmas stuff out and put up the Christmas lights this weekend. Since it supposed to rain on Saturday, I suggested we put up the shelves in his tool connex that day so we can start moving stuff from the tool shed to the connex since we need to sort everything out and install cabinets and shelves in the tool shed. We can't reach our tools or building supplies that are stored in the tool shed until we move some of the stuff out into the connex storage.

DS2 got the inspection on the house thwhich needs to be removed. ey wanted BUT there are some plumbing issues that need to be taken care of. I haven't seen the report yet but the repairs will entail cutting off the current water feed and rerouting all the house oumbing from the water supply through the attic (the house is on a slab and current utilities are all in the slab). There are a couple other items. The old HVAC was left in place when the new one was installed. The old HVAC has ASBESTOS in the fittings and probably in the ductwork. That wi have to be removed which wi;l require special permits and special haz mat crews to remove. Also special dumping. All that will cost beaucoup $$$$$. DS2 is starting to reconsider this house since the insurance alone is $7000 a year and has a $25,000 deductible (fire area). The 2 bathrooms need the tub areas redone as well. More $$$. Now he is considering looking for a cheaper fixer house (possibly without a pool since DD1 has a pool). He will do the repairs little by litle and know they are done right. I also told him to start looking at rental houses to see how much the rents are. He may find that renting while he saves more money is a good choice. I told him that he should look at different states for jobs and homes since he could get a lot more for much less in different states.

At 11:00 Wednesday night as I was falling asleep DGS1 called. They needed instructions on cooking their turkey. DH and DS1 had been taking bets on when they would call. DH thought it might be thanksgiving morning. Thanksgiving itself went off ok - I cooked the entire dinner with DS1 who did the turkey in the roaster. DS1 and I agreed that the dressing wasn't quite as good this year because we couldn't find Mrs. Cubbison's. We had to use Pepperidge Farm stuffing bread crumbs (large chunks) instead. DS1 said we will order it on Amazon next year. Everything else was good though and I sent the smoked turkey, some dressing, gravy and pie home with DD2.

Annabel was really good this year. It's always a tossup as to whether she has tantrums all day or behaves. She usually wants to go outside but it was cold and since she strips all her clothes off as soon as she gets here she had to stay inside. She spent the day playing with her toys and was a delight. She even liked the pumpkin pie. She is talking more now. They decided to go home and not spend the night which wored for e because I was exhausted. Doofus offered to leave her with us for an overnight but I declined. He mentioned tht we used to do it all the time for DD1 and all 3 of us told him that was 15 years ago when we were younger.

Doofus is back on the naughty list. He wanted to go out to the pond so he and DD2 headed out with Annabel and DH. DH told him to go through the far gate into the sheep pen where the pond is, not through the horse pasture. Josie the Mule is pretty good with her but Skittles gets excited and dances around which can be dangerous for a 4 year old with no fear of horses. DH told Doofus that and that there is some steeper ground there and he didn't want Annabel to get near the hot wire. Instead Doofus went into the horse pasture where Annabel saw the horses and took off towards them at a run. Doofus started yelling at Annabel who paid no attention to him and he and DD2 had to run to catch her just as she reached the horses. DH said to Doofus "I told you not to go in that gate - why did you do that?" Doofus said "Because I wanted to". DH said a few things then he and DD2 came inside with Annabel while Doofus remained outside sulking. I had already asked Doofus not to say the"F" word every time he opened his mouth so apparently he was not happy with us.

DH is really annoyed at Doofus. After they left DH said he didn't know why Doofus brought his gun into the house. !!! I didn't know he had done so but when they were leaving he came back inside and got something off the top of a cabinet saying he always carried "it". I thought he came back for his vape thing but apparenty it was a handgun. He does not have a license for it. I told DH that he should have left it in his car and that I don't want him bringing it inside with him. He probably thinks it makes him a big man to carry a gun. So stupid!

Then DS1 said he had told Doofus about his friend Leen planning to shoot deer on our property.
:barnieDH and I both shrieked a him for doing that since we didn't want Doofus to know anything about it. Doofus is always talking about shooting stuff on our property. First he said he would hunt deer. We said NO. Then he said we should get some ducks and put them on the pond so he could shoot them. We said NO. Then he said he would bring clays and do trap shooting over the property. DH told him NO. We don't want clay trap pieces all over the pastures. When he arrived on Thanksgiving he said he could have shot a turkey for Thanksgiving for us. I have not seen any turkeys around here, I don't know when they are in season, and most importantly, I don't want to be picking buckshot out of a stringy, gamey turkey. Doofus doesn't know how to dress and pluck a turkey (or anything) and probably would have slapped it down on my counter and expected me to be thrilled at the hours of plucking and prepping I would have to do. :rant We think he just wants to shoot something to feel big. He'd probably shoot the neighbor's steer and we would have to pay for it! Anyway, DS1 told him that he would never be allowed to hunt on our property. Doofus wanted to know why not since he had "more right" than Leen. DS1 told him that Leen had been hunting and dressing game since he was 6, knew all the rules, had all the permits, used to own a hunting preserve, and is an instructor. I'm afraid it may not be long before Doofus annoys me so much that I go off on him and tell him some home truths.

Nor Leen has had an idea that he will put a connex on the back of our property which he will convert into a hunting cabin with solar power and some sort of water containment system. Not sure about the tolet facilities. I don't know why he can just stay here in the house with us instead of setting up a living facioity. It occurs to me that with something on our property like that we would be hit with taxes on it. I really don't want people traipsing onto my property like that. Plus Doofus would immediately want to put something siimilar on and move his family into it.

That condo on a lake is beginning to look better and better. No address will be given to our children, just a P.O.Box number. AAARGH!

🤣 for your last sentence!

DS1 and I agreed that the dressing wasn't quite as good this year because we couldn't find Mrs. Cubbison's. We had to use Pepperidge Farm stuffing bread crumbs (large chunks) instead.
OK - I told DH to get the stuffing - he go Mrs. Cubbision's (I know we've used it before) but I also know I usually get Pepperidge Farm -- He made a comment the stuffing was different too mushy?! I think he would've been happier with the Pepperidge Farm --- we could've traded!

Sounds like Doofus is going to be fun not. Sure sounds like he's compensating for something thinking he can shoot anything. Laydown the law asap! Esp considering this
DH said to Doofus "I told you not to go in that gate - why did you do that?" Doofus said "Because I wanted to".
WOAH that and brining his gun in the house RED FLAGS all over the place.

From now on, you have GOT to tell him the rules are XYZ and if he does not follow them, he is not welcome... It is YOUR PLACE and YOUR RULES are what counts. If he cannot abide, he can just not come. Your DD is going to have to understand that she, and HE, and THEY, do NOT own or run YOUR farm... you do....
I really think that the connex out back is not a good idea... and not any of doofus's business who you do or DO NOT let hunt... he (doofus) has no more "right to hunt" than the man in the moon.....

As for the firearm... that would be an out the door and leave ... period end of sentence... having it around Anabel is foolhardy anyway... them moving to TX was not a plus for you.....

Yeah, I moved to VA and then after 20+ years, my ex and his 2nd wife moved down here.. to be closer to DS because they were totally alienated from his wife's daughter and husband... then she took pills and passed... and now DS is stuck with a bully for a father close by again.... Should've shot him instead of divorce him, and did time so DS would not have grown up to deal with all this... I'd have gotten 10 years for self defense... and been done with it.... GRRRR .
