I have a pair of what we think are rex's but, who really knows. Anyway they were housed together for quiet some time and who knows how long before we were givin' them. But, they are a male and a female. I recently built new hutches for my NZ and Cali's and my husband said that we should seperate the pair for the fear of you know what. So I did. She did not eat or drink for 3 days! I was mortified. Her overall attitude even changed, not letting me handle her, nipping, the whole ugly nine yards. On day 4, I couldn't stand the thought of an animal dying of starvation or dehydration, so I took her back to the bigger hutch with the other male. Upon, which she started eating and drinking immediately. What was up with that? Did I do the right thing?

Can you put them in cages where they can see each other but not close enough where he can breed her through the fence?

If they've been together that long and neither of them are fixed, then she's most likely bred regardless.

Do you have a friend you can put her in with that's a female?
