Sheep making weird face

I sometimes witness my sheep making this weird face where they lift up their top lip like they are disgusted by something. Why??

It's called the flehmen response. They are smelling pheromones using a special organ they have at the roof of their mouths. Usually rams do it but ewes can too.

Ah that makes sense considering they usually make that face when they are next to another sheep's butt from my experience.

They may also do it when on pain or ewes do it in labor.
