Barbie, my 6 month old Spanish-Boer (was a bottle baby) sounds like a pig when she breaths. (I can think of no other way to describe it:p except maybe if you were pretending to snore) She eats, sleeps, plays, poops, etc. normally, but her breathing just doesn't sound normal. It certainly is more noisy than our only other goat, Paprika, which is a 1 1/2 y.o. boer cross that we got at the same time that we got Barbie. Any ideas?:idunno

Does she have a temperature at all? Have you had her checked by a vet to make sure her lungs are clear?

Does she have a runny nose or eyes? Cough?

One of my older does does that snoring/grunting sound when she breathes if she is pregnant or has eaten an unusually huge meal, the bigger she gets, the louder she breathes. There's nothing wrong with her, she's just got too much inside her sometimes lol...and she's fat. Is your doe pregnant or fat or overeating? That may be the cause too.

@Ariel -- no runny nose, eyes or cough. I'm thinking she's just sounding like a piggy ..... because she is. I've only got 2 goats and they're both female, so no chance of being pregnant. And she is always at the feed trough first AND last. Oink.

When does she make the noise? Is it all the time or only when she is eating, etc.? Sometimes you will hear one make grunting noises if they are eating something off of the ground and are blowing the dirt from around it.

Is she fatter than the others ? Cuz that will cause them more pressure on the lungs and organs...

Just a thought? Have they all been wormed? Any chance of Lungworm? Cuz they will appear healthy otherwise...but labored breathing may be present as the counts gets higher... :idunno

I know the original post of this subject is a few years old, but I wanted to add an update to what I found out about the issue of my goat's breathing sounding like a pig or constant snoring. I noticed this sound in my 11yr old Pygmy a couple of months ago but there seemed to be no other symptoms leading to what I thought could have been pneumonia or parasites. She was foraging, eating well, drinking plenty of water, no diarrhea, no high temp, no runny nose or eyes, urinating ok. She was choking on her pellets sometimes, but I attributed it to her age, so made a slurry of her food and she did fine. Recently she started to decline and became anemic. Today she didn't really eat much. The vet came out and diagnosed her with heart failure. The loud breathing was due water retention. By this time her face and neck had become a bit swollen. She was given a shot of iron, I will give her Lasix injection twice a day for the next 5 days, and VitB complex at least daily. Now to find some yummy treats she can't resist just to get her to eat something. At least I hope she will be more comfortable. So, I guess a sudden onset of the constant pig noise is really not to be ignored. I hope this helps someone else, as I could not find any information on the internet about it. This site's forum was the only one that even mentioned the problem.
