staghorn ferns

Our little 3 week old dwarf nigerian doe was eating the leaves off our staghorn fern. Will this hurt her? I did take her away from it once I saw she was over there.

Not toxic to horses so I would not thing it is a problem for goats but I would not feed it to them until you research the plant. Might give them digestion problems but that is a guess. Good luck

I did a quick search and found one report online that stated "some ferns are known to cause blindness in goats." Unfortunately, it didn't name the offending ferns.

As a general rule, I never allow my goats access to any ornamental plants as most of them are toxic in one way or another. Your little one probably didn't eat enough to cause damage, but I'd keep a watchful eye on her anyway.

Thanks. She only had a big or two. I am usually sitting there watching them when they are out in the yard. I just wanted to freshen up their water.
