i read some where that you take the hide and smash the brain up on it is that true?

It works! But there are also other things that can be used, different chemical compounds that are a little less...gooey?

tanning is divided into 3 groups: brain, plant, chemical. also you can use eggs, i think that one kinda gets tucked with brain-tan though. the brain is fatty. you want to get the fat smashed between the fibers in the hide to soften it. try braintan.com
