I have a random thought/idea/question I was hoping for some opinions on.

The past week of milking outdoors in single digits temperatures has made it hard to use anything water-based on my does' udders for cleaning before milking. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive. Or maybe there are tricks I haven't learned yet (DO share!). But it got me wondering...

Is it crazy to make an oil-based udder wash? I was thinking of a light carrier oil with some anti-bacterial essential oils mixed it. Oil is incredible for dissolving dirt of all sorts so... any reason this wouldn't work?

Well, I don't really know. We are in NC and although we are in a cold snap and dealing with wind chill of 11 degrees we still carry out warm water buckets and still use fight bac.
I don't care for oils as dirt and debris stick to it. Essential oils can be great but can easily burn skin. Not a fan.

How many goats are you milking?

When we are experiencing cold temps I just make the udder wash a little warmer (almost hot) and cover it while not in use, to help retain the heat.

I wash the udder and dry right away. Haven't had an issue. But at this time of year we are only milking a few does.
