Using electric fence

It has worked without incident with this year's four pigs. They also learn very quickly when the wire isn't working, which is often since they dig up stuff and push it against the wire, grounding it out. .

Interesting! I have heard others say the same thing. I just have breeders on Electric, and my experience is the opposite. I could almost throw my charger away sometimes I think. In fact, when I open a wire gate, it has to be feeding or breeding time, and they still don't want to cross that line....

Mine are close to Seven's pigs. They respect the line. Maybe my gate opening is bigger so they can see theres no line as they will go through it if need be. They are usually hesitant though.

In a small pen, will the pigs stay so far away from the electric fence that they cut their pen size down dramatically? This is the only concern we have about the electric. It seems like the best way to secure them from digging out under the hog panels and wood slats. They dig so fast!
Would electrifying the fence be better than hog rings?

Any updates on this method ? we have our first pigs coming in about a month I was going to use field fence, then saw Joel Salatin's new video (or a preview I should say, I ordered the entire DVD). Like others said he is using one wire in the clip I saw. I was sceptical of his other methods, like MIG for cattle...but it has worked flawlessly.
