Hello all,

I was used as a middle man to find some 7.5 month old intact male goats a home. I found them a home, and went to pick them up to transfer to new owner and realized that in my opinion they look absolutely horrible.

I don’t know a whole lot about goats, as I have sheep and I’m new to them as well

I can see easily their whole spine and pelvis and they look extremely small and malnourished in my opinion

They are Nigerian dwarfs, twins, not bottle raised, born around thanksgiving last year

Cuurrently they weight 18 lb and 22 lbs and stand about 14 inches at the shoulders

I’m going to bring them to my vet tomorrow as well, just wanted to get some opinions on if this is normal and if I’m just being dramatic

Previous owner said they were fed alfalfa hay and pasture when younger and now have been on Timothy hay and pasture

I’ll attach a pic of them standing next to my Nigerian dwarf 7 month old doe (and my little ram ignore him)

Also, previous owner says they have never been dewormed

I find their legs to be extremely thin and not well muscled, their bellies to be bloated, and their horns seem small for almost 8 month old bucks. Even their genitalia seems small and stunted and they weren’t even excited about my female goats ( and my 5 month old buck is currently losing his mind over them)

I know very little about goats but I do know that most folks are in an ongoing 'battle' against worms.
I think a visit to the vet is a very good idea, especially with the stress of traveling to a new home, new herd.
Good luck with them.

What did your vet say?

It's so hard to decide some of their issues from pictures. I'd also question age but -- teeth will help tell that. They may also be cross bred, or entire herd is of smaller size. Some ND lines are smaller. The weight you say is not what I would expect them to be at 7-8 mos.
