Hi we have our first dairy cow! She is a 3 1/2 month heifer and we named her Appleseed and She is so calm already! we can slip a halter on her and doesn't mind at all although she won't really follow on a lead yet but will follow us around the pen :) but we have a few general first timer questions.
1. Is there any issue with her staying in a very large chicken yard with the chickens?
2. Does she have to sleep in the barn? should we shut her in the barn so she will? or just let her decide?
3. What are great non grain treats that she will love and will be good for her?
4. At 3 months is it too early to put her out with an electric fence?
5. last question :)how long does it take for the de-budded horns to heal? they were done over 2 months ago.

thank so much!

1. Shouldn't matter if she's in with chickens. It might not be good if she eats chicken feed though.
2. Let her decide.
3. Top quality alfalfa is generally liked a lot. I'd give her 2 - 3 lbs of corn, oats mixture. There's nothing wrong with feeding small amounts of grain.
4. No.
5. What method of debudding was used?

Not sure what method was used. But she was done at 7 days. And I think now it's starting to scab off
