have 21 kits 3 different litters. all between 4 1/2 - 5 weeks. i took them all away from the moms and put them in they're own cages today. they have been eating food and drinking water for a while. will this work or do i have to put the moms in there with them at night or something?

That sounds fine. The mom doesn’t need to go back in with the weanlings at all.
If you feed hay, it’s good to make sure the weanlings have plenty over the next few days, to help stave off any potential stomach issues from the stress.
