Hello everyone and welcome to the new www.BackYardHerds.com site!

We've taken the best things from our wonderful community at BackYardCows and built upon what we had and have planted the seeds of something great!

We still have a lot of things to setup and clean up, but we didn't want to wait for 100% perfection and wanted to enlist all of your collective wonderful experience and suggestions to make BYH to your herd what BYC is to chickens! :D

We've got the basic animal "categories" setup along with a couple key forums, but we'd love your expert feedback on how to organize each animal's specific section. Please post your feedback and ideas below. We can't promise we'll incorporate all your ideas, but we can promise we'll read them and take them under consideration.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For those of you that were members of BYCows, your login information will still work here. If you have any problems logging in please email support@backyardchickens.com and provide:

1) Your username
2) Your email address you used to signup
3) A note that you need help accessing the new BackYardHerds.com site.

Nifty - You are the best! This is great... what a great idea to put the 'herds' together!

I don't know how much you want to break out each section but under the Goats area it might be nice to have a specific "Dairy Goat" topic area and a "Vet or Urgent Care" type section and a "Mini" section just for the Mini breeds. That way people that have experience milking can look for those types of questions, etc.

Thank you for the suggestions. Keep them coming! We have some ideas but, we need people who know the different animal types to give us more input. :thumbsup

On to the llama/alpaca section:

It would be nice to have "fleece", "packing/carting" and "guard" llama sections. Llamas are generally used for one or two of those things... not all so there would be specific questions for each.

Would it be possible to have a separate section for "Fleece" and "Packing" so that those with goats can use those, too?
I would love to see a section on "Fleece" which could include spinning, felting and using different color dyes (artificial and natural).

Great ideas / feedback so far!

The biggest issue will be balancing out too many sub-forums per category (which makes the front page terribly long and busy) while also making sure it is easy to find the right place to post and ask questions.

Keep the discussion going!

:thumbsup

I think we ought to have a disease section for every species. Just to organize posts.
I would agree. While some diseases are across the board there are many that are animal specific. Same with injuries.

This is great! thanks for putting it together!

All animal sections should have an emergency section for each of them.

Goats (on most forums I'm on) have Dairy, Meat and Fiber sections... sometimes 'working goats for pack/cart' and sometimes a seperate board for showing... this all looks so great!

thanks again!
