My son's market wether, Fat Tony recently received an injury that required staples and penicillin shots. The vet gave him one, we have to give him one today (23rd), then again on the 25th and then the 27th. Fat Tony should get his staples out on the 31st. We have been keeping it coated with Blue Coat (vet said blue coat is fine or bag balm) and making sure it is clean. He said that if the staples do come out on the 31st, we should be fine to show the following week (8/3).

According to our fair's rule, they state that any medicine should go along with the FDA Recommended Drug Period Withdrawal but I can't seem to find it. I did find on a website where someone stated that penicillin leaves a goat's body and that it is fine to slaughter on the 9th day following the final injection. This puts Fat Tony as being "edible" on August 4th. Our Small Animal Auction isn't until August 8th. Does anyone know where I might find documentation supporting this so that I can present it and our vet's documentation to our superintendent in case we have problems? My son does have another goat he is taking as well (Sammy the Sammich), but I have learned that they always need a back-up animal. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) .

Withdrawal periods should be listed on the bottle, if I'm not mistaken..

Our vet filled the needles for us and didn't send us home with the bottle but what we were going to need. I think I need to give them a call....

Well, we use Pen-Aqueous (Pen Procaine G) made by Durvet, so I went to their website and snooped around for ya..

The product label for Pen-Aqueous is available here (pdf) ..

The cliff notes...there's a 48-hour milk out, and slaughter withdrawal times of 10 days for cattle, 9 days for sheep, and 7 days for swine.

No listing for goats..as usual..everything's off-label in goatworld.
